Ordinance regulates recreational vehicles

After requesting the addition of text allowing exceptions for operators of emergency vehicles or authorized Village personnel, trustees approved an amended Village ordinance. The amended ordinance prohibits the use of gasoline or diesel-powered recre- ational vehicles anywhere within Forsyth except on the owner’s property, the parent or guardian’s property or other property only with permission. The regulated vehicles include:

• snowmobiles
• minibikes
• motorbikes
• motor scooters
• go-karts
• all-terrain vehicles and
• off-highway motorcycles.

Battery-powered vehicles may be operated at speeds under 20 mph on Village sidewalks and bike paths except those within the boundaries of Forsyth Park. Motorized vehicles weighing more than 75 pounds must be operated by a licensed driver. Violators face monetary penalities.
