Forsyth saw many positives in 2009
Despite the continued challenge of the economic downturn, the Vil- lage of Forsyth ended the year with a long list of positive achievements that happened in the community in 2009. Mayor Hap Gilbert shared the list with community volunteers at a dinner held in their honor in mid-December. Among the 2009 highlights he listed: - 105 building permits issued
- 19 new home permits issued
- 93 new residents moved to Forsyth by November
- Seven new businesses opened in the Village, including Mi Jalapeno, The Chili Bowl, Golf USA, Sorrento’s Pizza, Eye-Mart, St. Mary’s Acute Care and Garner Hoadley Auto Body
- Maroa-Forsyth Grade School moved into a new facility on Shafer Street and Decatur Christian School moved into the previous location
- Phase I plans were approved for creation of a new subdivi- sion, Shadow Ridge Estates
- Road improvements were completed for Ruehl Street and Hickory Point Drive, and Hundley Road bridge was completed and opened to traffic
- The Cox and Elwood Street intersection drainage improvement project was completed
- A bike path extension between Hundley Road and West Forsyth Parkway was completed
- A zoning map amendment was approved to expand a Planned Unit Development at 389 W. Weaver Road in Forsyth Professional Park.
