Annexed land will stay farmland for now

The owner of nearly 90 acres of farmland being annexed to the Village said she has no plans to develop the land and will continue farming. The land is located at the end of West Weaver Road, north of Hickory Point Estates and west of Nature’s Way subdivision.

Decatur businesswoman Joan Wolf said the decision to develop the site will probably pass to her children and grandchildren.

Wolf declined annexation to Decatur when officials approached her about 10 years ago, and the land remained unincorporated until a recent conversation with Mayor Hap Gilbert. Wolf said her admiration for the Village and its administration extends to past leaders, including former Village President Dale Aupperle. “They’ve had a vision and plans for the community and are to be commended,” she said.
